Judge Deihl has over 30 years of experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), including 18 years as a Circuit Judge in Illinois’ Seventh Judicial Circuit, where he resolved hundreds of cases using ADR techniques and served as Chief Judge, Presiding Judge, and Judicial Educator. Trained at the National Judicial College and Northwestern University, he is certified in civil and family mediation. Before his judgeship, he practiced law for 24 years and taught conflict resolution, business law, and elder law as an adjunct instructor for 35 years.

Experience

Judge Deihl used ADR techniques while presiding over a variety of cases while serving 18 years as a Circuit Judge of the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court in the counties of Greene, Jersey, Macoupin, Morgan, Sangamon and Scott. He has held the titles of Chief Judge, Presiding Judge, New Judge Mentor, Peer Judge Mentor, Judicial Performance Facilitator, and Judicial Educator. He was in private law practice for 24 years before becoming a Circuit Judge.

Training

Judge Deihl first trained in civil mediation over 30 years ago and has since attended the National Judicial College for additional training in civil mediation and decision-making, as well as Northwestern University for Illinois’ mandatory family mediation certification.

Teaching

Judge Deihl taught classes in American jurisprudence, business ethics, business law, conflict resolution, contracts, personal injury and wrongful death, elder law, and probate, as an adjunct college instructor for 35 years.
